Member Changes Habits with RN Advocate’s Help
When Sebrina Darby is sitting in her living room, debating whether or not to exercise, a phone call to her Prevention Plan RN Advocate is all it takes to get her to make the right decision.
With a hectic home life and a busy work schedule as a Compliance Officer for First Housing in Tampa, Fla., Sebrina, like many Americans, thought she didn’t have time to exercise everyday. Sebrina’s RN Advocate, Cheryl Meyer, convinced her otherwise.
“My Nurse Advocate helped me to realize that I can make time to exercise; I can make ‘me time,’” Sebrina said.
Sebrina found that taking time out of the day to exercise was not as difficult as she first expected and the changes are definitely worth making.
“Cheryl suggested I begin by taking 15-minute breaks at work to go for brisk walks,” Sebrina said.
After she started her walking routine, Sebrina told Cheryl she wasn’t feeling the affects of her efforts. Cheryl told her to gradually increase her walking time as her walks became easier.
“It’s always good to have someone to help guide you and keep you focused,” Sebrina said. “Cheryl was wonderful at keeping me motivated to exercise regularly throughout the week. I’m now up to 40-minutes walking time. My goal is to do some type of exercise each day.”
Sebrina has also utilized a number of Action Programs offered in The Prevention Plan including, Healthy Eating, Stress Management and Get Active, which have helped her to lose weight and manage her high blood pressure.
“The Prevention Plan has given me the tools to help control the stress in my life, started me on a road to a healthier eating and exercise plan, and given me peace of mind by providing personalized medical support. But, I especially appreciate the Nurse Advocate feature. It’s great to get those encouraging words on those days you just don’t feel like doing the work,” Sebrina said.
Sebrina’s RN Advocate, Cheryl, champions Sebrina’s positive efforts to manage her health risks and the improvements she is making for her overall health.
“Sebrina has not only added exercise to her lifestyle, but she makes healthier food choices and uses breathing techniques to deal with the stressors we all experience. She is a delightful person and her sense of humor has a positive impact on her health,” Cheryl said.
