First-Time Marathon Runner Wins $5,000

George, a broker for Aon in Boston, is 56-years-old and just completed his first marathon. He participated in the annual Hyannis Marathon in Cape Cod this February.

“I didn’t do it in the time that I’d originally wanted. It took me a little over four hours to run, which isn’t too bad,” George said.

Age is just a number for George and he doesn’t let it slow him down.

“You have to continually push yourself, otherwise you limit yourself. I learned to ski at 45-years-old, so why not run a marathon at 56?” George commented.

George believes regular exercise and taking a preventive approach are important factors for reaching and maintaining a long and healthy life.

“Prevention is everything. You only have one body so you have to take care of it,” George said. “I try really hard to eat right and keep my weight in check.”

George keeps an open mind when it comes to his health. He decided to become a member of The Prevention Plan to learn more about his own health and how he can improve it.

“One thing I’ve learned is that taking care of your body is hard to do, especially as you get older, and your body doesn’t bounce back as easily as it used to. I’m always open for advice when it comes to my health,” George said.

When George received the results of his blood work, it showed his LDL cholesterol level to be slightly high, which he plans to share with his personal physician.

“The only health risk I manage is cholesterol. I’m currently on Lipitor, but my blood test results were a little high, so that may need to change,” George said.

George is excited at the idea of winning $5,000 and looks forward to a fun, family vacation with his wife and two daughters.

“I’ve never been on a cruise before, but I think a Caribbean cruise might be a fun way to relax and spend time with my family,” George said.
