Meet August Calabrese; Pony Express Challenge Winner

Meet the Grand Prize Winner of the Pony Express Trail Challenge, August Calabrese, from Orlando, Fla. He won athletic shoes and an Annual National Park Pass from The Prevention Plan™  for his family and friends to enjoy.

August talks about his health, his participation in The Prevention Plan, and his efforts during the eight-week long Challenge.

Maintaining Good Health with The Prevention Plan
Fortunately, I enjoy relatively good health, but before I joined The Prevention Plan, I had borderline high blood pressure and didn’t exercise as regularly as I do now. Now, I run three to four times a week, and swim two to three times a week.

I am also eating much better. I participate in the Weight Management with Advocate Program and it has taught me a lot about the things I eat – what I should continue to eat and what I should avoid. When I go to the supermarket, I know the things to look for and I know how to read labels much better. I have become evangelical about this program!

Now, my blood pressure is normal and I keep it under control with regular exercise and diet.

Taking on the Pony Express Challenge
I enjoyed The Pony Express Trail Challenge and it came at just the right time. I started a new job at a new location that is adjacent to a walking/biking trail, so it gave me the incentive to go out and get moving regularly. To get my miles in each week, I mostly ran or walked on the trail. I began losing weight slowly, which was strong motivation for me to continue.

When I found out that I was the winner, I was online updating some information for the Weight Management Action Program and saw it. I posted a big 'Woo Hoo' on my facebook page!
