The Prevention Plan Introduced to Employers Nationwide
U.S. Preventive Medicine’s long-anticipated wellness and health management program to help employers, government agencies and other payers get health care costs under control is receiving high praise as it rolls out nationwide, said CEO Christopher T. Fey.
Fey said both large and small employers were signing contracts for quick implementation of The Prevention Plan™ after reviewing in-depth demonstrations and customized options appropriate for their budgets and employee base. As the first-of-its-kind benefit concept solely focused on preventive care, the program enables individuals to determine their top health risks and receive a customized plan and ongoing personal attention to lower those risks and become healthier.
“We started with a clean slate of paper, did our homework, and built a suite of solutions based on what employers told us they needed. Frankly, we couldn’t be more gratified by the response, especially from those who have thoroughly researched the available options and feel our product is going to impact their health care costs,” Fey said.
The Prevention Plan™ prioritizes each member’s health risks through a substantial health evaluation that includes a health risk questionnaire, comprehensive blood tests, biometrics and physician review and recommendations. The heart of the intervention strategies is the RN Advocate, who works closely with each member by telephone and online to boost effectiveness of online action tutorials as well as educate, motivate and help navigate the complex maze of health care.
The program is designed to become a private, online medical home for individuals to store medical information and track their progress over time, even if their insurance carrier or employer changes. Other tools include alerts for preventive screenings – including those paid for by the employer-- reward programs and discounts with national partners.
“Numerous studies are reporting that employers are serious about implementing effective wellness and disease management programs that will actually curtail runaway health care costs,” Fey said. “They really don’t have any other choice. The federal government recently projected that the average cost of spending per person on health care will be $13,101 by the year 2017...nearly double the costs in 2006.”
U.S. Preventive Medicine offers a suite of wellness, chronic care management and early disease detection programs, all specifically designed to connect with the individual at a point before more expensive health care interventions are needed. “Great care was taken to design the program to be interactive, educational and take each person step-by-step through the program,” Fey said. “The Prevention Plan is a completely secure place to store their medical records so they can access them anytime and gives them the help they need to know what to do next to stay healthy. We even tell each member what preventive screenings

are paid for in their other benefit programs, such as their health or dental insurance.”
Employers are provided with detailed management reports with aggregate data so they are fully informed about the overall risks within their employee groups, so that appropriate wellness programs can be implemented to mitigate them. Once specific areas of concerns are revealed, U.S. Preventive Medicine also delivers custom programs to intensely manage the health of those individuals with costly chronic care needs or high-risk issues such as pregnancy.
The bottom line is that The Prevention Plan pays attention…we help healthy folks maintain their good health, and completely surround those with existing conditions to help them get on track to improve their quality of life,” Fey said.
